top 5: people’s choice awards 2011

January 8, 2011

and here we go again, another lackluster awards show. the people’s choice awards kick off the annual awards season, usually with a bang. as i skimmed the pictures from this year’s event, there was nothing which made me go wow. same ole, yawn-inducing fare.

there were, obviously, a few looks which salvaged the otherwise dull fashion parade. here are my picks:

i think selena gomez is the most stylish chicita discovered by disney, not to mention the most stable. she always picks age appropriate yet sophisticated looks on the red carpet.  she wears a pale pink paule ke dress with an asymmetrical ruffle on the shoulder, which is a teensy bit reminiscent of valentino’s spring 2011 looks. anywhos, yes this look is a bit repetitive as we have seen selina in similar dresses before, but she manages to look fresh and stylish. her hair and make-up are perfecto, her accessorizing is minimal and polished.  but i swear to the lord above me she better not be that justin beiber thing.  i shudder at the thought.

actress maggie q wore one of the most interesting herve leger’s i have seen in ages. the one-shouldered dress has a beautiful leather texture and tiers jutting out from the hips which are quite mcqueenish. i love the tousled wavy hair and platform pumps. a very edgy, hard-ass look.

i know this isn’t the trio of kardashians we are used to seeing, but kourtney was too blah and khloe deserves her own space. kendall wears a taupe one shoulder (see the trend peoples) bebe dress with a black band and black brogues. i love the color and style of this dress and i think its perfect for kendall, the shoes were not a great decision. but i guess she was trying to change it up.  kim is wearing a gold brocade catherine malandrino dress. she looks quite sophisticated non? the updo and necklace are perfect for this look, they take the element of sophistication to whole new level. kylie wears a simple black and white wink dress which is perfect for the 13 year old. she doesn’t look like she’s trying to hard to be an adult/hoeish (miley cyrus).

i love khloe and her insane, brash antics on ‘keeping up with the kardashians’. she entertains me like no other.  i love her chiffon gray alexander mcqueen dress and i love her leiber clutch (swoon.)

and i love the red hair.

and yes these 4 kardashians are counted as 1. eh.

nothing better than girly, pastel dresses. taylor swift sticks to the same ole hair but wears a pleated  j.mendel dress in the most divine shade of peach. i like the clashing red lips. the look is simple and sweet and yes a bit predictable, but i am still in love with it.  some chic named virginia williams wears a beautiful shimmery oday shakar dress with a cowl-back in the lovliest shade of tea pink.  i think this dress is one of my favorites, i love dresses that have interesting backs, it is a great look.

mila kunis is one of the most beautiful women in the world. is she not?  only she could make this otherwise dull dress work. as much as i am loving the ruffles and shape of this dress, there is something about the color and material which makes it look too heavy…not comfortable or flowy as it should be. military chic gone too tough? perhaps. the dress is a pre-fall 2011 j. mendel which she has paired up with beauiiittttiful brian atwood pumps.

honorable mentions:

selena gomez in irina shabayeva

leighton meester in vionnet.
