Sonam Kapoor @ Cannes: Day One

May 16, 2013

Sonam Kapoor wears Anamika Khanna at Cannes It seems as though wearing traditional Indian/desi wear has become somewhat of a norm for Bollywoodistas who make appearances on the Cannes red carpet. Sonam Kapoor jumped on the bandwagon at the premiere of The Great Gatsby at Cannes last night.

Sonam Kapoor in Anamika Khanna sari in CannesSonam wears a couture sari by her go-to designer Anamika Khanna. The ivory white sari has a gold trim, embellished blouse and is paired up with a long embroidered jacket. Firstly, allow me to elaborate on the PROS of this look. I love the whole, old Bollywood glamour this look gives off,  the pairing of the vintage-esque sari with a long jacket is new and gives this a modern edge.

Here some the CONS: the sleeves of the jacket should have been better fitted to give off a more elegant look. I think.  While the makeup looks deeee-vine in the top photo, in the 3 photos above it looks way too harsh. Annnnd that nosering is not doing it for me. I mean, it is kind of an eyesore. I think it is too big, a smaller one would have been fantabulous.

What do you think guys? Am I being too nit-picky?

Sonam also had 2 other appearances. One was a photocall/interviews with Freida Pinto for L’Oreal.

Sonam Kapoor Huemn dress

On this occasion Sonam wears a monochrome hybrid sari/dress by Huemn paired with gorgeouuus statement earring by Suhani Pittie and Lanvin flats (buy here). I’m all about monochrome right now so I love this look.

Sonam Kapoor Cannes Opening Gala Dinner

For the Opening Dinner, Sonam does a complete 180 and wears a watermelon pink Elie Saab dress with matching pumps. Is it really a surprise that this is my favorite look? You know I love me some princess fashion. Wish I had a clearer picture of this look. The straight hair gets an A+ and so does the makeup.

I think the red carpet look would have been super high fashion if she would have just skipped the nose ring… It just seems alil overdone with the nose ring on!! The other two looks are awesome, and the elie saab dress is to dieeee for… Elie saab is the bessssst when it comes to princessy gowns and dresses!! LOVE

    My opinion?

    – The “Bollywood Glamour” clothes are gorg. Loveeee the nose-ring! Givenchy just did some giant nose-rings too, and I love it, adds pow :P But the reason I don’t think it works is her hair & makeup: i wish her cat-eye didn’t extend so far that it’s almost touching her eyebrow. If she’d kept her hair & makeup a little cleaner, I don’t think the effect of the outfit would’ve been so jarring.

    – Black & white is DIVINE OMG OMG OMG I WANT ITTTT. Hair & makeup complements it perfectly.

    – Pink Elie Saab: no. I don’t like it. It doesn’t fit her properly, makes her look fatter than she is (… and that’s saying something bc she’s not fat!). But I agree, her hair & makeup is perfection here!
