It seems as though wearing traditional Indian/desi wear has become somewhat of a norm for Bollywoodistas who make appearances on the Cannes red carpet. Sonam Kapoor jumped on the bandwagon at the premiere of The Great Gatsby at Cannes last night.
Sonam wears a couture sari by her go-to designer Anamika Khanna. The ivory white sari has a gold trim, embellished blouse and is paired up with a long embroidered jacket. Firstly, allow me to elaborate on the PROS of this look. I love the whole, old Bollywood glamour this look gives off, the pairing of the vintage-esque sari with a long jacket is new and gives this a modern edge.
Here some the CONS: the sleeves of the jacket should have been better fitted to give off a more elegant look. I think. While the makeup looks deeee-vine in the top photo, in the 3 photos above it looks way too harsh. Annnnd that nosering is not doing it for me. I mean, it is kind of an eyesore. I think it is too big, a smaller one would have been fantabulous.
What do you think guys? Am I being too nit-picky?
Sonam also had 2 other appearances. One was a photocall/interviews with Freida Pinto for L’Oreal.
On this occasion Sonam wears a monochrome hybrid sari/dress by Huemn paired with gorgeouuus statement earring by Suhani Pittie and Lanvin flats (buy here). I’m all about monochrome right now so I love this look.
For the Opening Dinner, Sonam does a complete 180 and wears a watermelon pink Elie Saab dress with matching pumps. Is it really a surprise that this is my favorite look? You know I love me some princess fashion. Wish I had a clearer picture of this look. The straight hair gets an A+ and so does the makeup.
