sari style: deepika p.

August 15, 2011

deepika padukone is a very beautiful woman, but at times i feel her sartorial choices lacking. and also her lipstick choices.

at the premiere of her latest flick aarakshan with the delectable mr. saif ali khan, deeps donned a kind of interesting, monochromatic sabyasachi sari

now this sari is very non-sabyasachi is it not? i’m having mixed feelings about it. there is no doubt that deepika as a whole looks gorgeous. radiant even. but is there too much going on here? i sometimes feel that there is.

i find there is something deliciously elegant about a long-sleeved sari blouse, it adds a sense of grace which is hard to match. the long sleeves are perfect for someone as statuesque and poised as deepika. i swear, i have never seen someone who stands up straight like her all the freakin’ time – although that might make her seem stiff at times, here it is working like a charm.

i love the sari itself, with a chattha of sequined motifs and a black border- it looks classy. it is the blouse which confuses me.

there are 2 things which i feel could have elevated this look – or maybe not. let me elaborate.

1) since the neckline is so embellished, pulled back hair would have worked better to show that off. but i feel that pulled back her might have instantly made this look too severe and kind of boring.

2) the neckline could have been plain. the sleeves have embellishment almost covering them, and that looks gorgeous. so what this heavy neckline needed? probably – it is what sets this sari apart.

see! so confusing!

the reason i don’t think pulled back hair would work with this sari is because deepika looks breath-takingly beautiful as she is.  her face is perfect here.  i love this lipcolor on her and the bronzed look is working wonders. she looks fresh and very glam. i do wish those orange streaks weren’t in her hair, but that is a minor set back.

so, what is the verdict? yay or nay?
