pleasantly surprising

October 9, 2011

kirsten dunst is one of those actresses who always sort of confused me, and by that I mean she annoyed the hell out of me. But I’ve learned to let it slide. kirsten has been out of the news for a while now, especially fashion news. she made her big comeback at the cannes film festival this year while promoting her highly anticipated film melancholia. she had two amazing appearances at cannes which you can check out here

The promotional tour of the film started last week with the uk premiere,  and it started with a bang. i love how much importance actresses are now giving to promo tours, it’s like one fabulous look after another.  kirsten herself is definitely on a roll, that comes as a pleasant surprise to me – i never really considered her as a fashionista.

 :: uk premiere ::

At the uk premiere, Kirsten rocked a gorgeous chiffon paisley print dress by honor. The dress, from the spring 2012 collection, is super feminine and sophisticated. It seems so fitting for a british red carpet event. Kirsten looks like a quaint little debutante in this get-up. She is on-trend with paisley – a print which dominated at milan fashion week last month. the calf-length dress cinches at the waist and has a high neck. black pumps and a slightly messy updo complete this demure look. a great  choice.

 :: nyc premiere ::

for the stateside premiere of the film, kirsten opted for an equally sophisticated look. her black halter neck chloe dress is so grown-up and chic. the dress has a drop waist and a sequined scarf wrapped around the neck. it is a minimalist look with interesting details and doesn’t require much else. this dress is uber flattering.  the same updo as the uk premiere complete this look. i have to applaud her make-up here. she looks stellar,  her eyes looks amazing.

:: bulgari eyewear launch ::

ok technically this isn’t an event related to the film but i couldn’t let it go. kirsten knocks it out of the ballpark here. she looks absolutely divine in this white derek lam dress.  this look is pristine.  the while silk dress has 3/4 sleeves and a high boat-neck, a simple white and gold belt creates some shape. the dress does have a statement feature – an eyelet inset at the back which is as fabulous as the rest of the look. you know, for some girls less is always more. many people would have looked boring in this simple white dress, but kirsten looks perfect. and oh my god, that hair and make-up. it is flawless. beautiful bulgari earrings and an embellished clutch complete the look.
