bollywood @ cannes.

May 14, 2010

bollywood has a heavier presence than usual this year @ the cannes film festival. good to see an international film festival actually embracing international film fraternities :p

while ash has been a regular eyesore at the cannes red carpet, deepika padukone made her debut walking the red carpet for chivas decked out in custom rohit bal outfits.  deeps and rohit bal clarified at a press meet earlier this week that she would be clad in saris and eastern outfits designed for her. this is her cannes debut:

that's a tall glass of water

deepika wears an ivory sari adorned with gold embroidery and a teeny (yet blingy) blouse.  the sari is nothing special, it’s very run of the mill and doesn’t make you go WOW. rohit bal is known for his explosive design talents so it was expected that he would deliver something eyecatching

i think the subcontinental lot will be collectively disappointed by this look, however everyone else will probably drool over it because 1) it’s exotic 2) she’s exotic 3) there are  no tulle or ruffles in sight.

neck tattoo? classy.

her hair and make-up make her look very vintage bollywood. i think she should have ditched the brown lipstick, which looks horrendous against her dusky skin and stuck to something nude and glossy.  a bit of kajal on the lower lids would have helped too. however, may i point out here that she has killer eyebrows *thumbs up*

let’s see if her second appearance fares any better.

and here’s what madame ash showcased on day 2

there's that smirk again

ash is wearing an embellished armani prive gown. her hair is a toned down version from yesterday, it looks a million times better. i do like the red lips on her. but the lady could use some eyebrow maintence (ash dahling, call deep’s people)

i have issues with this dress (as opposed to me loving the elie saab from day 1)  i don’t like the way it is higher in front and shows her shoes (which are hideous closed toe SATIN grey with a bow, wtf?) i hate the tulle peeking out from the hem, in some dresses this style works but for this one it looks plain old stupid. but i will not say i hate the dress because 1) it is black 2) it is blingy.

i know this is going to sound really mean, and i bit my tongue yesterday, but she looks fat. non? ok maybe not fat, but definitely out of shape. and i am not saying that she IS fat, she just has a tendency for wearing dresses which do not flatter her body shape.

errr. don't.

which is a shame really. because i saw some pictures of her from the loreal photocall in an emolio pucci dress and she looked absolutely stunning.

massive improvement

and apparently malika sherawat is at cannes again? huh? random. here she is with salma

the best of both worlds. or not.

(picture from bollywoodhungama.com – in case you couldn’t tell)

i can’t wait until we have some pakistani’s sashaying down the red carpet at cannes, how fab would that be?

I love Salam’s gown. Mallika doesn’t look anything special but WAY better than Ash, day 2 version! Ash did look stunning at the photocall. I LOVE her shades. And I agree with the Deepika verdict. Disappointed!!!! But yes, bet she was going for the vintage Bollywood look.

i also thought malika looked better than ash, and that is saying a LOT! i hope these two pick up their game in the coming days, i would love to see a red carpet showdown

Thank YOU for finally commenting on Ash’s body shape and the style of dresses she chooses to wear. I was kind of disappointed you didn’t point it out yesterday. Both dresses were a no-no for her body type.
I did not like Deep’s makeup at all.
And what’s with the eyebrows? I don’t get it. What’s wrong with Ash’s eyebrows?

i was trying to be nice, but being an international superstar with the best stylists and designers at your doorstep you canNOT keep making these silly mistakes.

      Let’s see how she does.

The eyebrows – deepika’s are perfect, they are arched and thick but not too think. on the other hand ash’s look crooked, a bit uneven. basically, she needs to go away.

oh p.s. Deepika’s outfit shows unnecessary skin.

    • pink255 May 14, 2010 at 3:42 PM

yes, she could have draped her pallu more traditionally.

hey, two of you closet fundos, stop it. Let deepika flaunt what she has. and the neck tattoo totally bowled me over.

    i am a fan. absolutely ravishing !

      to each his own ;)

also, its not about fundamentalism or being prudish…a sari is meant to be worn a certain way, if you are really going for the full-blown indian goddess look, you should do it right.

but hey, i have seen worse. so we will let this slide ;P

Damn! look at Ash’s tummy.. awfully awful.. even worse is the ‘I am dive’ look…..

Seriously, I so agree with the FACT that she looks fat, old, and her eyebrows need some mainatainence. Ash in Pucci looks good, but her age is really starting to show.

[…] deepika padukone is a very beautiful woman, but at times i feel her sartorial choices lacking. and also her lipstick choices. […]
