marc jacobs is one of the most popular and influential mainstream designers in the world today. what i love about marc jacobs is that his designs are wearable – no over the top, uber-haute couture for him. his clothes are beautiful, well-tailored and always on trend (if not creating trends)
the ‘marc by marc jacobs’ resort 2011 collection was showcased earlier this month and has received an overwhelmingly positive response. inspired by dancers, the collection is a combination of casual and flirty – incorporating streetwear, minidresses, polka dotted trenches and crepe short suits into the mix.
what really caught my eye was the accessories collection which, unlike the clothes, was inspired by endangered birds. weird RIGHT? this isn’t the first time the bird motif has popped up in high fashion – it featured heavily in miu miu’s and karen walker’s s/s 2010 collections. we have also seen a flux of purses, shoes, accessories all with the avian touch.
and this truly is a great collection: chunky jewelry, gorgeous bags, iphone/ipad covers – with everything having various elements derived from the concept of exotic birds.
love. love. love.
every piece in this collection is beautiful. i am especially loving the bunting ring and the winnie bag…and the rocky bad.
and the pearl necklace.
and the beautiful gold chain/leather belts.
… absofreakinlutely gorgeous.
