Cover Girls: Hanaa Ben Abdesslem & Hind Sahli

January 10, 2013

The fashion world has slowly broadened its horizons to include models who vary from the blond hair/blue eyed prototype and each year we see stunning, exotic (to the Western eye) faces exploding onto the scene. Some of the biggest names in the modeling world, like Alek Wek, Liya Kebede and Lakshmi Menon, are revered for their unique, jaw-dropping beauty.

Honestly, sometimes it feels the fashion world gets fixated on one country per year. A few years ago it was Brazil and the onslaught of Brazilian models (Gisele, Alessandra, Raquel, Isabeli) was almost overwhelming, then it was onto Russia (Natalia, Tanya, Sasha, Daria) and this last year seemed to be the year of the Asian models  (Liu, Ai)

I always wondered why the Mid-East never made any waves. I sincerely feel that Arab/Middle Eastern women are some of the most beautiful in the world. Lately, Hanaa Ben Abdesslem from Tunisia and Hind Sahli from Morocco are taking the world by storm. They aren’t the first Middle Eastern models to make a huge impact on the fashion world, but they are the first Muslim models to do so.

:: Hanna ::

Hanaa’s biggest gig to date is being signed as the face of beauty giant Lancome. Aside from this, the 5’10 stunner has appeared in international versions of Elle and Vogue. I love her classic, delicate, feminine features which are strengthened by that cropped cut.

:: Hind ::

Hind Sahli just gives off a bad-ass vibe doesn’t she? The Moroccan beauty has a very strong, very fierce look which works superbly well in editorials. Hind has appeared on numerous international runways and magazines.
