‘country strong’ premiere

December 15, 2010

the two stars of country strong hit the red carpet at the premiere of the movie in california wearing two very distinct looks.

:: gwen ::

i’m sure a lot of jaws dropped when gwyneth paltrow turned around and gave the paps a look-see. gwen wears what looks like a simple, long-sleeved pristine white dress by emilio pucci, but the back is where all the action is!

ahem.

the back of this dress is quite daring, with a cut-out panel that leaves little to the imagination. isn’t it insane that a 38 year old is able to pull this off (body-wise)? ridic. personally, i am not too crazy about this dress. the lacey-up crap in the back makes it look like something a stripper would wear. i think a simple white sheath with an insanely low-cut back, or even no low back, would have been so much classier. something similar to diane kruger’s met ball look.

the face is flawless. looks much better than she did a few days earlier . i love the golden skin and slightly smoky eyes.  the hair, as always, is sleek and polished.

:: leighton ::

the expression on her face pains me.

leighton wears a flirty ruffled dior frock in tones of pink, red and orange. it is a surprising choice for winter,  good to see some color on the red carpet. most actresses have been sticking to black and white for red carpets these days.  leighton teams her frock up with bright orange pierre hardy wedges and stacked gold bangles. i have a bit of an issue with the accessorizing – the shoes are great, i think they add a perfect pop of color but aren’t too crazy because they tie into the color palette of the frock. it’s those god damn bangles. they need to go.

i have always preferred leighton with darker eyes and a pale lip but it is understandable that she wanted to extend the youthful vibe of dress to her make-up. her lips pop and the rest of her face is clean, thick lashes and pink tinted cheeks complete the look. her hair is styled into waves but i feel the hairstyle is a bit too sophisticated for the rest of her ensemble. perhaps a ponytail would have worked better.

i’m not too impressed with either of these looks. it’s sad really. you would think two style supa’stars like gwen and leighton would try to outdo each other but both ended up looking lacklustre.

until next time.
