there was no jaw-dropping moment at the oscars this year, at least not for me. there was not one dress that made me fall in love at first sight. but there is no denying that these ladies looked pretty good in their neutral gowns.
white and ivory were big colors this year at the oscars, with some of hollywood’s biggest fashionistas opted for the hues. let’s take a look at who rocked it the most.
:: jennifer lopez ::
jennifer lopez showed up at the oscars in her trademark diva style. she wore a nude and white beaded gown by zuhair murad. the gown, which was custom made for j-lo, has a plunging line, long sleeves and cut-outs at the arm. ok let’s get the bad out of the way first: i hate the cut-outs and the plunging neckline. both are totally unnecessary. i love the woman and her fiece style, but the occasion calls for the ladies to be covered up. the positives: the fit of the dress is a dream, color is amazing and it is subtle yet sexy. the topknot is great, but loose hair would have softened this look up a bit.
:: cameron diaz ::
one of my faves of the night. cameron diaz wore an off-white gucci premiere gown with a very interesting skirt. the strapless dress starts off simply enough and gradually gives way to a stunning hemline of silk chiffon ruffled layers embellished with silver beaded fringe. how can you not love it? i’m diggin the casual bob too – adds the right amount of nonchalance to the entire thing. a fringed clutch and diamond necklace finish off the look.
:: octavia spencer ::
the big winner of the night stuck to her favorite designer tadashi joshi by choosing a shimmering ivory dress. i think this is the perfect dress for octavia. it flatters her skin and her figure, and she looks insanely classy. the cap-sleeved gown gathers at the waist, which is very flattering. a sleek, low, side chignon and lorraine schwartz earrings and a judith leiber add to the elegance of the look.
:: gwyneth paltrow ::
many are giving gwen the best dressed title of the night…do you agree? the blonde actress was lucky enough to wear a tom ford gown from his top secret fall 2012 collection. i have to admit, she looks spectacular. a white dress without embellishments rarely hits the mark, but this one does, thanks to its gorgeous cuts. this is minimal chicness at its best. the white dress is great on its own but the addition of the cape takes it to another level. it was a risky move but worked amazingly well.
:: milla jovovich ::
this woman is just so beautiful, how can she not be on the list? milla j. wears an asymmetrical elie saab couture gown from the fall 2009 collection. this is typical elie saab – feminine, princess-y, shimmering – and that is why i love it. the styling for me is what wins here; the retro waves and the red lips compliments this dress perfectly. an edie parker clutch and diamond jewels complete the look.
