best dressed @ iifa 2011

July 1, 2011

the iifa awards seem to be getting duller every year. nothing exciting – nothing WOW seems to come from them.

this year, the awards were held in toronto with the usual amount of hoopla. but why does it seem like every z-lister in bollywood is there? where are the a-listers? where is sonam? how about kat? where the hell is kareena?

the fashion didn’t excite me that much either. but i managed to pick some chicas who i thought were working it. let us take a look.

shilpa shetty in dolce and gabbana

shilpa shetty has the body of a supermodel. or even better, because she has curves. she can put on a paper bag and she’ll rock it. this sequined dolce and gabbana tube dress is everything shilpa loves – sleek, chic and flashy.

a pink prada clutch adds a pop of color – which i really think wasn’t needed. a dress so shimmery doesn’t need such a start contrast. my favorite part about this look is that stunning necklace.

neha dhupia in lanvin and catherine malandrino

hands down, the best dresses i have ever seen at an indian awards show. flawless. her acting leaves a lot to be desired but when it comes to style, few bollywood stars are up to par with neha. she is fabulous. and seriously, props to her for choosing a 2009 malandrino gown, really takes a fashion savvy person (stylist?) to come up with that choice.

anushka sharma in sabyasachi

anuskha was one of the few ladies who kept it ethnic. she wore an embroidered sabya sari which looked great on her statuesque frame. i love this girl, she looks so at ease with herself. kudos to her for picking a traditional look in a sea of designer gowns.

mallika sherawat in dolce and gabbana

i cannot believe that mallika sherawat looks this decent. her fishtail leopard print gown is 10 billion times better than anything she has ever worn. the updo is great, the makeup is great. good progress.

malaika arora khan in monica jaising

diva. obvi. she really is india’s bombshell. no matter how old she gets, she looks hot. and it’s all in the attitude. this ombre lace dress has a cut-out at the waist. now, while i think the cut-out is a tad unnecessary, it wouldn’t be a sultry malaika look without it. this beige isn’t the best color on her, but she makes it work. my favorite part about this look are those gorgeous maheep kapoor earrings that we’ve seen her sporting before.

sonakshi sinha in dvf

sonakshi opted for black sequins like shilpa. her wrap dress from dvf is perfect for her figure – she looks great. i love how the touches of red add some drama, although the nails could have been a bit shorter. the tight bun with a flower is totally giving this a spanish/flamenco vibe
